Polaroid Montagen

Die im Gang des Kunsthaus ausgestellten Polaroid Montagen von Lajos Keresztes entwickelten sich aus der Beschäftigung mit dem Polaroid* Einzelfoto. Während er bei den Einzelfotos noch mit Ausschnitt, Installation und Farbigkeit experimentierte, setzten sich bei den Montagen völlig neue Bildstrukturen und -kombinationen durch. Die Polaroid Montagen stellen eine eigene, komplexe und hochartifizielle Werkserie des Künstlers dar. Dabei montiert Keresztes verschiedene Polaroids entweder gleicher räumlicher Aufnahmen oder unterschiedlicher bildlicher Sequenzen zu eigenen Bildern und Bildmotiven um. Ähnlich wie bei den Triptychen werden hier mittels Montage neue Bildschöpfungen kreiert und umgesetzt.

*Die US Firma Polaroid wurde 1937 von Edwin Herbert Land gegründet. Das Polaroidformat ist ein eigenes Bildformat. Es ist unter dem Stichwort Sofortbild bekannt geworden und feierte vor allem in den 1970er Jahren mit dem Integralfilm seinen Höhepunkt, indem zwischen Aufnahmezeitpunkt und entwickelten Foto nur wenige Minuten vergingen. Seit 2008 stellt das Unternehmen keine Sofortbildkameras mehr her.

Polaroid montages
The Polaroid montages by Lajos Keresztes exhibited in the hallway of the Kunsthaus developed from his preoccupation with the Polaroid* single photograph. While he still experimented with cropping, installation and colour in the single photographs, completely new image structures and combinations prevailed in the montages. The Polaroid montages represent a unique, complex and highly artificial series of works by the artist. Keresztes assembles various Polaroids, either of the same spatial shots or of different pictorial sequences, to create his own images and motifs. Similar to the triptychs, new images are created and realised here by means of montage.

*The US company Polaroid was founded in 1937 by Edwin Herbert Land. The Polaroid format is a proprietary image format. It became known as instant photography and reached its peak in the 1970s with integral film, which meant that only a few minutes passed between the moment the picture was taken and the photo being developed. The company has not manufactured instant cameras since 2008.
